Distributed Resource Management (DRM) Services

BioTeam combines expert-level expertise on Platform LSF and Sun Grid Engine with deep knowledge of life science workflows and application requirements. The combination allows BioTeam to go far above and beyond generic vendor "install and configure services." We can:

• Properly install Platform LSF or Sun Grid Engine
• Properly configure queues and access controls
• Define and implement site-appropriate resource allocation policies
• Performance tuning and troubleshooting
• Integrate open source, commercial or in-house applications
• Integrate parallel application environments (MPI, PVM, etc.)
• Integrate high-speed, low-latency interconnects (Myrinet, Infiniband, etc.)
• Integrate FLEXlm licensed applications and license servers
• Custom training for cluster users
• Custom training for power users or software developers
• Custom training for IT staff and operators
• Phone, email or remote-access based support for LSF and SGE

Architecture & System Design Services

BioTeam can assist with facility renovation and new construction efforts by acting as a subject matter expert (‘SME’) on life science high performance computing. We work with engineers, architects and project managers to assist with key infrastructure items including core networks, heat and electrical issues, UPS and backup.

Example services include:

• Assisting with datacenter design and upgrade projects
• Interfacing with HVAC and electrical professionals to communicate and coordinate cooling, cabling and power requirements
• Technical audits of existing systems to examine "retire, replace or upgrade" options

Application Integration

BioTeam can install or integrate open source, commercial, license managed or in-house applications on new or existing infrastructures, grids and clusters.

Instrument Integration & Planning

Purchasing a next-gen Sequencer or imaging device? The latest generation of lab instruments capable of generating terabyte volumes of data present unique facility, networking and IT challenges for labs large and small. BioTeam can help by:

• Documenting for IT staff  and planners the significant technical requirements these instruments demand
• Documenting for scientific staff  the tremendous pressures these instruments will place on traditional IT networking and compute infrastructures
• Determining if existing compute, network and storage resources are sufficient to support the new instrument(s)
• Assist with "data movement" and instrument workflow planning from a full lifecycle perspective encompassing data capture, staging, first pass analysis, secondary analysis, storage, backup and archive requirements
• Assist with design, sizing and configuration of instrument-attached workstation and storage subsystems.

"Subject Matter Expert" Subcontracting

For select vendors, resellers and integrators, BioTeam experts can be made available to work in customer-facing situations as subcontractors. Attached to a vendor, integrator or reseller effort, the BioTeam can assist with RFPs, bid proposals, pre-sales efforts and onsite customer work where having expert-level HPC IT practictioners with extensive life science backgrounds is desireable.
